I recently lost my job, and although I was already looking for another one, I have not been successful. I need to find another job soon, I have been praying a lot for it. Will I be able to find a new and better job soon? And when will it be?

Dear Unintentionally Unemployed:

It sounds like you have been doing all the right things, but your search for the right job just isn’t going your way. Were you employed for a long period of time with the same company, or in the same field? This can look really great on a resume, and help you find that next job faster.

And, speaking of your resume, when was the last time you updated it? If you have been working with an out-of-date resume, that could be a large part of your problem. The format for resumes has changed a lot over the years in which they have been popular. These days, it’s not uncommon for job-searchers to have an electronic resume, a paper resume, and even a business-card sized mini-resume for when you meet a potential employer on-the-go.

But if none of these things are working, maybe you should try a different tact. Do you have any skills that would qualify you for a different position than the one you were in, or a totally different field altogether? Sometimes job seekers find more success when they make an unexpected change. If you choose this path, make sure you update your resume to one that is based more on your skillset than your previous employment.

When all else fails, you can often find new opportunities by broadening your search. Instead of searching for only full-time jobs, what about considering part-time, temporary, or even volunteer work? You never know what you might find when you open your eyes to new opportunities.

Good luck in your search! Expert answer - Find more experts: click here!
